Telegram messages not sending while battery saver mode is enabled

You open Telegram, type a message, hit send — and nothing happens. The message stays stuck with a spinning icon or a single check mark that never changes. As soon as battery saver mode is turned off, messages suddenly go through all at once. This usually feels random, but it is not a Telegram bug.

The issue appears because battery saver features restrict background activity and network access to conserve power. Messaging apps rely on constant background synchronization. When the system limits Telegram’s ability to run freely, outgoing messages may wait until the app becomes fully active again.

Why It Happens

Most Android devices and some customized system interfaces aggressively pause apps when battery saver is active. Telegram may be prevented from maintaining a persistent connection to its servers. Instead of sending immediately, messages remain queued locally.

In many cases, the restriction affects background data, push services, or network wake permissions rather than the internet connection itself.

Fix: Remove Telegram From Battery Optimization

This is the most reliable solution.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Battery or Battery & Device Care.
  3. Tap Battery Usage or App Battery Management.
  4. Find Telegram in the app list.
  5. Select Unrestricted, Not Optimized, or Allow Background Activity.

After changing this setting, reopen Telegram and send a test message while battery saver is still enabled.

Fix: Allow Background Data Access

Some systems disable background network usage separately from battery optimization.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to AppsTelegram.
  3. Tap Mobile Data & Wi-Fi or Data Usage.
  4. Enable Background Data and Unrestricted Data Usage.

This allows Telegram to maintain communication even when power-saving rules are active.

Fix: Disable Deep Sleep or Sleeping Apps Lists

On some devices, battery saver automatically moves apps into a sleep state.

  1. Open SettingsBattery.
  2. Find Sleeping Apps or Background Limits.
  3. Remove Telegram if it appears there.

Once removed, the app can keep a stable connection again.

Optional Alternative

If you prefer keeping battery saver strict, manually opening Telegram before sending messages forces the app to reconnect. Waiting a few seconds after opening usually allows queued messages to send.

After Telegram is excluded from battery restrictions, messages should send normally even while battery saver mode remains enabled.
