If your phone’s hotspot suddenly shuts off the moment Battery Saver activates, nothing is actually broken. In most cases, the system is doing exactly what it was designed to do — cutting off features that consume heavy power. Unfortunately, mobile hotspot is one of the first services restricted.

The quick answer: Battery Saver limits background networking and tethering to extend battery life, which causes the hotspot connection to drop or stop broadcasting entirely.

Why Battery Saver interferes with hotspot

Running a hotspot is demanding. Your phone keeps cellular data active while simultaneously maintaining a Wi-Fi network for other devices. That constant transmission drains battery quickly, so when Battery Saver turns on, the operating system reduces power usage by restricting:

  • Background network activity
  • High-power wireless radios
  • Continuous data sharing services
  • Apps running without direct screen interaction

Some phones disable hotspot immediately. Others allow it briefly, then disconnect connected devices after a minute or two.

Fix 1: Prevent Battery Saver from turning on automatically

This is usually the simplest solution.

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to Battery or Battery & Device Care.
  3. Tap Battery Saver (or Power Saving Mode).
  4. Disable Turn on automatically or adjust the percentage trigger.

If Battery Saver never activates while you’re using hotspot, the connection typically stays stable.

Fix 2: Allow hotspot to run without restrictions

Some Android devices let you exclude certain features or system apps from power limits.

  1. Open Settings → Apps.
  2. Find Hotspot, Tethering, or System Connectivity Service (name varies).

Fix 4: Check manufacturer-specific battery controls

Brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo often add extra battery management layers beyond standard Android settings. Look for menus labeled:

  • Data saver or smart manager

If hotspot-related services appear there, remove any restrictions.

A practical tip

If you rely on hotspot frequently, set Battery Saver to activate at a very low percentage instead of disabling it completely. That way your connection stays stable during normal use but still protects the phone when the battery becomes critical.

Once Battery Saver stops interrupting network activity, hotspot connections usually remain steady without further adjustment.
